Apple’s augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) glasses, which meet in a single hardware, may come up with new features. Apple, which has filed different patent applications in the field of AR / VR headsets, has received multiple patents today regarding the use of gloves to detect skin-to-skin contact.
According to information shared by Patently Apple , Apple’s VR Gloves will be able to move a cursor, scroll pages, open a document and make a selection on the interface. In addition, when using Apple AR / VR glasses, all these operations can be performed with skin-to-skin contact. It will also be possible for a camera or radio frequency-based system in AR / VR headsets to track fingers.
According to the statements used in the patent applications, Apple focuses on detecting skin-to-skin contact with two Apple Watch-like wearable technologies. In this example, one of the Apple Watches is used for detection, while the other serves to perform the gesture.
Looking at the patent applications, we see that the said approach can be implemented with an Apple Watch and a ring instead of two Apple Watches. The ring, which is planned to work with VR gloves, can be used to call someone, answer calls, make choices and broadcast programs.
However, it is possible to say that all these are at the idea stage for now. It is not yet known when which of the technologies we mentioned will be implemented. However , considering that Apple received 37 patents in a single day, including AR/VR-focused ideas , Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, who stated that Apple and Meta are in a very deep and philosophical rivalry to build the metaverse, is not wrong at all.
