Intel has confirmed its latest Redwood Cove P-Core and Crestmont E-Core next-generation architectures for its 14th-generation Meteor Lake CPUs.
14th Generation Intel Meteor Lake CPUs with P-Core Redwood Cove and E-Core Crestmont have been confirmed , Redwood Cove P-Core and Crestmont E-Core architectures were first reported by Moore’s Law are Dead in 2020, and we’ve seen more reports for hybrid architecture since then. Now Intel has finally confirmed through its Open-Source listing that the Redwood Cove and Crestmont cores are indeed real and will be used within the 14th generation Meteor Lake CPUs. The Redwood Cove will be a main “Core” CPU while Crestmont will power the “Atom” cores.
The 14th generation Meteor Lake CPUs will represent a game changer for gamers as they take a brand new approach to tiled architecture. Based on the “Intel 4” process node, the new CPUs will offer a 20% performance per watt improvement through EUV technology and are set to disappear by the second half of 2022 , and the first Meteor Lake CPUs are expected to ship by first half of 2023 and the availability is expected by the end of that same year, furthermore it is said that the desktop parts will arrive on the shelves by the second half of 2023 and will face AMD’s Zen 5 CPUs at the time of their launch.
According to Intel, the 14th generation Meteor Lake CPUs will feature a brand new tiled architecture and that basically means that the company has decided to use a full chiplet. There are 4 main panels on the Meteor Lake CPUs, there is the IO card, the SOC card, the GFX card and the Compute card, also the calculation box includes the CPU box and the GFX box. The CPU Tile will utilize a new hybrid core design consisting of Redwood Cove P-Core and Crestmont E-Core, delivering higher performance throughput at lower power while the graphics tile will be unlike anything we’ve seen before, finally the CPUs they will scale from 5 to 125 W , from ultra-low TDP mobile to high-end desktop PCs.
As Raja Koduri states, Meteor Lake CPUs will use an Arc graphics-based GPU which will make it an entirely new class of graphics on a chip, it is neither an iGPU nor a dGPU and currently regarded as a tGPU (Tiled GPU / Next-Gen Graphics Engine). Meteor Lake CPUs will utilize the all-new Xe-HPG graphics architecture, enabling improved performance at the same level of power efficiency as existing integrated GPUs, and this will also allow for improved support for DirectX 12 Ultimate and XeSS, features only supported by the Alchemist lineup at the moment.
