Warner Bros. Discovery announced during its first quarter results as a combined company that HBO Max and Discovery+ will be combined into a single service starting next summer. The CEO of the company, David Zaslav , stated that their main priority right now is to launch an integrated SVOD service.
The combined service of HBO Max and Discovery+ will launch first in the US in summer 2023, Latin America later that year, and early 2024 in European markets where HBO Max is now available. It is estimated that the service in question will be launched in more than 70 countries by 2025. However, this plan does not include major key markets including the UK, Germany and Italy. The new combined service is expected to reach 130 million subscribers by 2025.
The new plan will be available in both ad and ad-free versions, similar to HBO Max’s current plans. Alongside this, the executives also revealed that they are working on a plan to launch another new streaming service that is completely free. Details on how the free service will be are not yet fully available. However, it is possible to say that it will be ad-supported.
After the merger of the two services, HBO Max’s Turkey plans will be a matter of curiosity. We will share with you the development on the subject.
