Man killed himself after hitting Capitol barrier with his car in Washington

The man who hit the barriers of the Congress building with his car in Washington, the capital of the USA, shot himself with his gun when he saw the police approaching.

In the statement made by the capital police, it was stated that a person driving towards the Congress building at around 04:00 first hit the barriers in front of the building, when he saw the security forces approaching him, he fired several shots into the air and aimed his gun at himself and pulled the trigger.

It was stated that the car, which targeted the barriers on the corner of East Capitol Street NE and 2nd Street SE in Washington, burst into flames, and the suspect, whose identity was not disclosed, died at the scene.

In the statement, it was noted that in the incident that took place at a secluded time of the day, the suspect “does not appear to be targeting any member of Congress” since both the Congress and the Senate are on recess, and the police did not respond with weapons.

The incident took place at a time when law enforcement across the country is facing an increasing number of threats and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has received warnings of violent attacks on government buildings since the search of former US President Donald Trump’s Florida home.

The last time in the capital was on April 2, 2021, a person who deliberately drove his vehicle to the checkpoint near the Congress building, causing the death of a policeman, and was killed after he got out of his vehicle and walked towards the police with a knife in his hand.
