Guarantor of animal rights: new figure of Roma Capitale

A proposal by the Councilors of the Environment and Rome Capital, Statute and Technological Innovation commissions by the Capitoline Assembly approved by unanimous vote. This is the institution of the figure of the Guarantor of animal rights in Rome Capital.

He will be an independent figure from the administration, appointed by the mayor with the opinion of the Environment Commission . The duration of his mandate will correspond to that of the mayor, remaining at work in any case until the appointment of a successor. Personalities with proven experience will be able to express their interest in a possible Guarantor through a public notice on the institutional website.

With this provision, the current Regulation on the protection of animals dating back to 2005 is integrated, including the principles of community, national and regional legislation.

Giammarco Palmieri, president of the Capitoline Environment Commission and one of the promoters of the law initiative

I thank the Capitoline Assembly for having approved the establishment of the Guarantor for animal rights, which adds a further important element to the policies implemented by the Gualtieri Administration on the promotion and protection of animal welfare in our city. A figure foreseen in the programmatic lines of the mayor Gualtieri to pay close attention to animal welfare. We want Rome to return to being at the forefront of animal rights protection but, above all, an inclusive city. After the important resources budgeted for animal welfare, today another very significant step in this direction.

Sabrina Alfonsi, Capitoline Councilor for the Environment
