Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned that the Zaporojiya nuclear power plant, caught in the middle of the war, could turn into a disaster for Europe and the Black Sea region.
In a video message, Zelenski said, “Any radiation accident in Zaporojiya could affect the European Union, Turkey, Georgia and even more distant regions. Everything depends on the direction and strength of the wind,” he said.
RUSSIAN WITHDRAWAL
Calling on the international public not to bow to Russia ‘s nuclear threat, Zelenski said, “The consequences of a disaster caused by Russia may hit those who have remained silent until now.” Zelensky demanded the unconditional withdrawal of Russian forces located in the power plant and surrounding areas. The bombardment and clashes that have intensified recently around the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, which was under the control of Russian forces at the beginning of last March, increased the concerns of a possible nuclear disaster. At the beginning of the week, 42 countries, including Turkey, issued a joint statement demanding Russia to withdraw its soldiers from the nuclear power plant as soon as possible.
