Pakistan to import natural gas from Azerbaijan

Pakistan Deputy Energy Minister for Petroleum Musadiq Masud Malik announced that they will import an additional 20 thousand tons of natural gas from Azerbaijan to meet the need for the next 2 months.

According to the news in the national press, Malik, in an interview with a national television channel, said that the government is working on the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) natural gas pipeline project and that they will import natural gas from Azerbaijan upon the completion of the project.

Malik emphasized that the country’s natural gas reserves are decreasing every year and this situation creates pressure to meet the demand from outside.

Announcing that they will import an additional 20 thousand tons of natural gas from Azerbaijan to meet the need for the next 2 months, Malik said that a delegation from Moscow will come to Pakistan in January 2023 to discuss the import of crude oil from Russia.

The construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) natural gas pipeline project, which will carry Turkmenistan natural gas via Afghanistan to Pakistan and India, started in 2017.
