Tesla could once again leave some of its employees at home. New redundancy plan in sight?
Tesla could once again leave some of its employees at home. According to an indiscretion taken up by the specialized site Electrek, the automaker could announce a new redundancy plan during the first quarter of 2023.
On the one hand the layoffs, on the other also the freezing of new hires – as done by many other tech companies. Tesla had already announced a freeze on new hires last June, but the measure was interrupted to follow up on some extraordinary hirings necessary to increase the productivity of the plants in Texas and Germany.
Elon Musk had been one of the first CEOs to publicly announce that the period between 2022 and 2023 would be characterized by many mass layoffs in the lead-up to what could potentially be a severe recession . There have actually been layoffs, but at the moment economists seem to agree that it is too early to talk about a real recession.
Meanwhile, Tesla may announce plans for its next Gigafactory this week. It should be located in Mexico, near the northern border with Texas, where all of Elon Musk’s companies are based (except Twitter, for now). It will be the most expensive ever and will initially be used for the production of components that will then be used in the assembly lines of other American factories. One day it could also host the production of the first Tesla with a price of less than $30,000.
