According to the statement of the Fire and Disaster Management Agency (Shobocho), 8 people lost their lives and 45 people were injured in disasters and accidents caused by heavy snowfalls across the country.

There were power cuts caused by snowfall and disruptions in high-speed train services.

Meteorology officials noted that the snow thicknesses in Şimane, Hiroshima, Kochi and Hokkaido regions are above the seasonal normals and the snowfall is expected to continue.

Traffic jams occurred on the highways for about 30 kilometers.
