Wind Tre and Iliad team up: the Zefiro joint venture is born to enhance the mobile network in less populated areas

Iliad and WindTre have announced the birth of the Zefiro joint venture. With 50% share capital, this alliance was created to boost mobile phone networks in less populated areas of Italy (and therefore in market conditions that are normally at a loss).

The joint venture envisages that the two companies pool resources to manage and share telephony infrastructures, accelerating the spread of the network – including 5G – in the less served areas of Italy.

Zefiro Net Srl has announced the purchase of ownership and technical management of the physical infrastructure for the provision of mobile radio services. Overall, the infrastructures managed by the joint venture will reach 26.8% of the Italian population.

Iliad is a French company that entered the Italian mobile phone market in 2018. Since then, it has become one of the leading mobile phone operators in Italy and has had a significant impact on the market.

One of the reasons Iliad has been so important to the Italian mobile phone market is that it has offered very competitive rates, often significantly lower than those of its competitors. This has allowed Iliad to attract a large number of new customers and increase its market share.

WindTre , in turn born from the merger between the two telephony giants of the same name which took place in 2017, holds a market share of 18% and is one of the main players on the Italian market.
